Categories of Gambling Games.
Despite the stand of some governments and religions against them, gambling games will always exist. Gambling is part of the human nature. But in the civilized society today, many gambling activities have taken on the form of entertainment. People watch racehorses and gamble on which horse will win. People log on to online casinos and play at slot machines. Gambling can indeed offer great entertainment. But which forms of gambling entertainment are now existing today?
There are now three known categories of gambling games. These are the Casino Gambling Games, Non-Casino Gambling Games, and Fixed Odds Gambling.
Casino Gambling Games
Obviously, these gambling games are held in casinos, both online and land-based. Most casino games are played using a deck or several decks of cards. While others use instruments such as a slot machine or a wheel. Some of the known casino games are: Sic Bo, Pachinko (evolved as a famous game in the army during the Second World War), Pai Gow, Faro, Keno, Roulette, Slot machines (which can be progressive slots), Craps, Baccarat, Blackjack, and, of course, Poker. The last one, poker, is not just a game of chance, but a game of skill as well.
Non-Casino Gambling Games
These gambling games are found in many places other than the casinos. For example, the lottery can be held in a small community, or be supported by a government agency. Mahjong can be held in individual homes or during a gathering of friends and families. Aside from the lottery and mahjong, there are other non-casino gambling games.
Some casino gambling games utilize the dice., and sometimes, a table. These are backgammon , hazard, passé-dix, and liar's dice. Even the relatively innocent "snakes and ladders" dice game can be a gambling game. Some non-casino gambling games also use cards. These are liar's poker, bridge, basset, lansquenet, piquet, and put.
Some non-casino gambling activities involve the tossing of coins, such as the "head and tail" and the "two-up" There are also non-casino gambling games that are classified as "street swindles" such as the three card monte and the shell game. In the bar, there are more gambling games, such as the "put and take", the smack, and the drunken mitt.
Carnival games are also considered non-casino gambling games. Some examples of carnival games are the Razzle, the Hanky Pank, the Penny Falls, the Six-Cat, the Swinger, the Push-up Bottle, and the Nail Joint.
Fixed Odds Gambling Games
A person can have his gambling entertainment at the fixed odds gambling games. Some examples of these gambling games are horse racing, greyhound racing, jai-alai, and other sports games. That is, a person can gamble by betting on his favorite teams at football, baseball, basketball, and ice hockey. Or a person can bet on his favored player at golf or tennis. Even betting on who will win at reality TV shows, such as Big Brother, is considered a fixed odds gambling.
